A new study has shown that in the United States, one gay man in five is HIV positive, while almost a half of these carriers do not know their infected status. This is courtesy of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which had tested about 8,000 gay men in 2008 and in 21 cities. This made it perhaps the most comprehensive of all researches by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC.

In the research, young gay men who are sexually active, mostly those found in minority groups might not known their personal health status, as infection rates among the gay keep on climbing. This is in sharp contrast with HIV infection rates, where they have been falling among the heterosexuals as well as IV drug users. CDC has now started calling upon HIV testing.

HIV & AIDS:Cases Increasing Among Gay Men

Director of the CDC, Kevin Fenton, for its National Center for Viral Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, TB and STD Prevention, has said that the message from the study is very clear, that HIV is devastating men who sleep with other men in major cities across the United State. Also, the sorry thing is that not many of the people infected know they have the virus.

The city in America that has the highest cases of HIV and AIDS is Baltimore among men who have sex with men, standing at 38 percent, while the city with the lowest rate stand at 6%, Atlanta, GA.
