Vehicle CommanderA new weapon, designed to “spray” an invisible ray of energy around, creates a strong burning feeling and forces the people to run away. The United States Army has been developing in the past 10 years this Active Denial System, with a so-called “goodbye effect”.

The tests demonstrate that these rays are very effective at getting people to run away from that area caused by a very hot sensation at the top layer of skin.. The army states that the weapon is completely non-lethal and leads to no permanent damage. The advocates of this weapon say that this technique might result in fewer casualties. The barriers to implement the weapon have been policy concerns, rather than technical problems. For example such political reasons stopped the Pentagon from considering the implementing of this system two years ago in Iraq.

There are more and more supporters of this method and they suggest it could be a good solution in other areas. For example the U.S. southern borders, keeping away the increasing number of illegal immigrants coming in.

On the other hand human rights groups may fight against this weapon. Their view is that it may become a torture instrument which doesn’t create physical evidences over the victims.
