Days after blonde tennis goddess Maria Sharapova was pampered with a huge engagement ring, fiancés are again going for broke knowing that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Nick Lachey gave wife-to-be Vanessa Minnillo the perfect ring on her 30th birthday.

Vanessa Minnillo could not stop grinning as she flashed the enormous diamond as she celebrated her birthday in Mexico. When single lad Nick Lachey decided to put a ring on it, he sure was not miserly.

The duo of TV presenter 30-year-old Vanessa Minnillo and Jessica Simpson’s 37-year-old ex husband Nick Lachey announced their engagement to America’s Us Magazine yesterday. They said that they were deliriously happy and looked forward to an incredible future together. Time will tell, given the way Jessica Simpson and singer Nick Lachey broke up.

Dukes of Hazzards star and singer Jessica Simpson was not so thrilled, even as friends said she wished her ex well. She was saddened and hurt by the way her first husband Nick Lachey jumped into the dating fray only days after he broke up from her at the end of a 3 year marriage, telling Elle magazine in 2007 that his behaviour was sure icky.

It was a difficult time for Jessica Simpson who had the spotlight trained on her married life, which was even the subject of Newlyweds,the MTV reality show. She had filed for a divorce from 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey after their marriage broke down irretrievably in 2005.

Hope the new innings lasts longer for Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo.
