As the rivalry between smart phone-associated companies translate into lawsuits, the rivalry between Apple and Google is showing a new trend. Apple might have been the first in releasing its handset and OS while the Nexus One branded Google’s handset hardly made any significance in the market. However, the new research courtesy of Nielsen report Android is now having the largest number of users of any kind of OS within the American market. Android had 32% of all chunk of users by August this year, above six units higher than the iOS courtesy of Apple as well as RIM’s Blackberry OS, standing at 26 and 25% respectively of all the devices that were sold by that time. Research: Android Popular than iPhone in US Market The results have further shown the rise of Android as a major player within the US market. Android came a year after iOS, now covering about a single individual in five using smart phones in America. Steve Jobs, the Apple CEO was quoted as saying that “Make no mistake, Google wants to kill the iPhone” and that they “won’t let them”, while addressing their ensuing competition. Google might not destroy the iPhone in the near future but if Apple’s age-old battle with Microsoft in the line of PCs is anything to go by, Apple might need to up its tactics to avoid some earlier mistakes. Microsoft on the other hand, might not be successful in unhinging the Smartphone market but a release of Windows Mobile 7 shows they are still viable as acute competitors. |
