The unbeaten Auburn Tigers (8-0) moved from fourth position on Sunday to beat Oregon (7-0) and Boise State (6-0) and get to the top spot. This puts the Southeastern Conference in the national title game for the fifth straight appearance. Southeastern Conference has won the last four national championships, with Florida taking two and Alabama and LSU winning one each.

Auburn Stood Ist in BCS Standings after Beating Boise

Computer rankings placed Auburn at the top in the computer rankings but in the USA Today coaches’ and Harris polls managed third in each. Coach Gene Chizik before the release of the standing said that he could only control what went on in the building. After a team meeting he said, “being grounded and understanding that each week is different and brings a different opportunity”. The six computer ratings count for the rest of the remaining of the two-thirds of the polls counting of the BCS average.

A second place is Oregon (7-0), and would likely play in the BCS title game in Glendale, Az in January if they win. They had beaten the Pac- 10 rival UCLA 60-13 the previous week that saw the Broncos sent off and Auburn beat LSU 24-17. The Ducks computer rating was lagging behind at eighth, but a solid first position in each of the polls.

From the Western Athletic Conference was the Boise State (6-0) who were still at third place. In the polls, they were No.2 and were expected to play on Tuesday night at home against Louisiana Tech. Boise State and TCU from the Mountain West would have to go undefended and have Auburn and Oregon lose to get a chance to the first teams from conferences who did not have automatic bids to play in the BSC championship games.

The Michigan State and Missouri could pass the Broncos and Horned frogs if they stay unbeaten or even Alabama who were seventh in the standings.

The TCU (8-0) were fourth, Michigan State (8-0) fifth and Missouri were (7-0) seventh. Fixtures for the week include Oregon and Auburn, both play on the road, whilst tigers play at Mississippi and Oregon at Southern California.
