Austerity March by Tens of Thousands in Brussels

There were tens of thousands marching in Brussels against the austerity measures by the government on Wednesday, where there were different protests as well across Europe. Many Unions have expressed that measures put will definitely slow the economic recovery rate and severely punish the poor. Trade Unions have expressed that they have organized rallies to take place in 13 European capitals. Spanish unions were some of those involved in the general strike, in the opposition of such measures as pension and spending cuts and a host of other labor market changes, reforms that are expected to offset their economic crisis. Brussels: Scene for Austerity March by Thousands Not that people are against reforms but the major thing is the fact that banking systems are receiving billions of Euros while social payments end up facing the cut. Ralf Kutkowski, a coal miner from German was quoted as saying in Brussels. Marchers in the Capital of Belgium were heading to the headquarters of the European Union, waving banners and sporting union flags saying “Priority to Jobs and Growth” and “No to Austerity”. Some of the represented unions included Polish shipbuilders, Romanian gas workers and coal miners from German. The leaders of the marchers wore black suits enhanced by black facemasks and holding briefcases and umbrellas, all in acting the death of Europe in the ensuing funeral cortege. The organizer was the Confederation of the European Trade union and aimed at getting about a hundred thousand protestors to join the march. While the immediate estimates were not determined, the number of the crowd was put by police officials at about 50,000. A Scottish public sector worker representing youths from Edinburg was quoted as saying that, they wanted to express the message that public services were highly needed since those who needed them most are the ones mostly affected by the current economic quagmire. With the reforms set to take full throttle, protests continued to take place in so many different capitals of European countries, such as Dublin, Athens, Belgrade, Warsaw, Prague, Bucharest, Vilnius, Nicosia, Rome, Lisbon and Brussels.
