The 2010 Baltimore Marathon gets started on Saturday. The 2010 edition will mark the 10th anniversary of the annual event. This year the marathon has started amidst cool temperature and a nice sunny weather, pleasant and favourable for the event. Previously, many runners are found to get injured and sick during the marathon. This year due to the weather, this threat can be eliminated.
The Baltimore Marathon will start from Russell and Camden Streets from 8:01 am on Saturday. Around 5000 runners crossed the starting line. The route of the Marathon remains the same as that of last year. The route follows a 26.2 mile course that twists its way through the different parts of the city’s neighbourhood.
Reports suggest, event organisers are expecting close to 22,281 participants from 25 countries to be taking part in the Marathon which is a record number. All four of the races have been sold successfully. The winner will be decided by who crosses the finish line after running all over the US and reaching the target at around 3 pm.
Alfonsi Yatich remains the hot favourite to win this event. The 26 year old runner from Kenya is the defending champion with a record time in 2008 clocking 2:11:56. Fellow Kenyan Julius Keter will be hoping to provide a tough competition for the top spot.
The winners of both the men’s and women’s marathon are slated to get $23,000 as the prize money while each record breaking performances will get up to $2,500.
