A driver stopped his vehicle and shut down the traffic on the upper deck on the Bay Bridge claiming he had explosives and a gun with him. This incident took place on Thursday morning and ended eventually with a standoff between the driver and the cops. As a result of this, all of the traffic going towards the west was thwarted.
The man was then arrested by the police and has been in prison since then.
The incident took place at around 7am in the morning and the westbound traffic was held to a blockage of two hours. Till then, all vehicles were being directed to the other bridges of the region. Normal traffic was allowed to flow from about 9 am. The blockage took place at the toll plaza, California Highway patrol.
The armed man drove a SUV and had his daughter with him. However, as the vehicle was parked in the mid of the block, she ran away from the SUV and confirmed to the police that her father had arms with him.
The man had stepped out of his vehicle and was seen speaking on his phone while sitting on the railing of the bridge. He had announced of having explosives and a gun with him by calling the KCBS 740 Radio. He had also threatened of blowing off the bridge and jumping off it.
The age of both the man and his daughter taken into custody were not known. As a result of this act, around 280,000 commuters had to face a standstill and wait for two hours.
