Brad PittBrad Pitt joined USA Bid Committee like a member of their Board of Directors having the purpose of bringing the FIFA World Cup to the United States either in 2018 or 2022.

“Soccer is a truly global sport and the opportunity to join the effort to have the U.S. host the world’s greatest sporting event again is a great honor,” said Pitt. “FIFA has set a world standard for using sport as a tool for positive social change and I’m proud to be associated with a United States World Cup bid that has so ardently adhered to the principles established by FIFA.”

Brad Pitt is a determined promoter of different charitable organizations around the world. He also founded in 2006 the “Make It Right” Foundation, coordinating housing professionals to finance 150 sustainable new houses for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. In the same year he established the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to support humanitarian causes around the globe with his wife Angelina Jolie.

His connection to soccer combined with his exposure to worldwide culture has given him a unique potential for accomplishing this purpose. U.S. Soccer President, Sunil Gulati, was very glad to welcome Pitt to the USA Bid board of directors.

The United States submitted their bid to FIFA, competing with other eight teams: England, Australia, Russia, Spain-Portugal, Netherlands-Belgium, Japan, South Korea and Qatar. The last three only applied as candidates for 2022.
