Arizona FreewayArizona has been turning more towards public transportation as of late due to options like bus or rail transportation. But that could change soon. Cities in Arizona like Tempe have to cut money out of their transportation budgets to reduce spending due to the economic woes. But, Arizona is still planning on expanding the freeways.

Fifteen years ago in Arizona statewide and locally, voters approved public transportation by funding it. Now Arizona may take a step backwards to the early 1990’s. At that time Arizona did not realize people wanted public transportation. Now with Phoenix’s downtown revitalization the rail project is a great success.

The rail could benefit Arizona by adding property values and creating jobs. It would make the state more greener and more cars would be off the road. It would connect cities like Phoenix and Tempe.

Tempe is leading with budget cuts of $14 million. This will be spread out over three years. The budget cuts will be decided in May. But by Sunday routes on the bus system could be eliminated.
It is already hard to get around with the buses. Expanding the freeways will only make things worse for people who need public transportation.
