Buju Banton, Jamaican Reggae Star, has to wait for Monday to learn his fate since the jurors are yet to reach a decision, with deliberations expected to continue at about 8am on Monday. Banton is from nine months custody in jail and another 14 days. He was hauled on 10 of December 2009, in South Florida. This was after James Mack and Ian Thomas, his co-defendants, had been apprehended after a warehouse bust by the police in Saratoga. Buju Banjon news on his arrest and court process has his fans concerned since there have been many changes in his trial dates after his incarceration in Florida, last winter. Many fans still think Buju’s trial will still be pushed later into the year due to his arrest for being associated with drugs in Tampa, Florida. Mack and Thomas had agreed to give information against the artist and then receive lesser sentences. Nevertheless, the two hardly took the stand after Mack’s plead of the Fifth Amendment. The prosecution and defense could not find any help in Thomas’ testimony that might bring some aid to their cases. A fortnight earlier, Mack had signed affidavit claiming that he hardly knew Banton, only after his arrest. He had also sworn the reggae artist did not know about any firearm or the 130,000 dollars found in the motorcar he drove. Buju Banton arrest news means he has to derail plans to make a Japan tour after the last one he attended had become tumultuous during his “Rasta Got Soul” 2009 album tour. This was followed by cancellation of trade shows as a protest to his homophobic and violence among other things. Image Credit: |
