Taxpayers who feel the pinch of paying taxes are in relief as the culprits ripping them thousands of dollars have been nabbed. The case was announced by DA Bill Gibbons, Shelby County on Thursday. Business Owners in Memphis Summoned Over Tax Fraud The Special Investigations Section of the Department of revenues had been on a hunch and had been conducting a four-month investigation on the fraud case. Property of over ten thousand dollars theft is what the 12 defendants are being charged with together with the sales tax swindle charges. As the case continues, part of the defendants will be answerable for over twenty-five counts of the sales tax swindle. The arrests were done by Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and the special agents of the Department of revenue on Wednesday. Many of the accused own convenience stores and small groceries. It is alleged that the fraudsters pocketed taxation money paid by customers as well as forged sales tax reports. District Attorney Gibbons said that the fraud defendants would have to be made accountable for these severe offenses. He asserted that it is not fair for the taxpayers who pay taxes rightfully to bear the burden of those who evade taxes. Scheduled dates for the arraignment have not been set. Image Credit: |
