Delegates from one-hundred and twenty-nine countries attended the conference. Among the delegates were civil society and environmentalists. Morales gave them a warm welcome. The conference was held near Cochabamba in a village called Tiquipaya at a sports stadium. The Bolivian President is a leader of a party called Movement for Socialism. The goal is to give back to the country’s poor through land reforms redistributing riches from resources like gasoline. Morales was stated as saying that, “Capitalist systems go after the gains which promotes growth on our planet. Capitalism is the reason of imbalance on our planet. The destruction of our planet is capitalism. The places where we live we have moral rights and ethics and we need to say our enemy is capitalism.” The president called the meeting because of the failed climate talks at the UN last December. Bolivia and other countries were hoping for a strong agreement but instead a weak one was made on greenhouse emissions. Image Credit: |
