Conviction of 29-Year Old Immigrant for Murder of US Intern

A conviction on the murder of US government intern Chandra Levy, has been made on Ingmar Guandique, an immigrant from El Salvador, who now faces a sentence of life imprisonment.
The 2001 murder of the 24-year old woman revealed that she had been having an affair with California democrat, Gary Condit. The former congressman’s career was shred into tatters after the police indicated he was a suspect in the murder. Although the charges against him were subsequently dropped, he nevertheless left office in 2003.

Twitter Message Conviction Set to be Challenged in Court

A 27-year old accountant who had been found guilty of sending a menacing electronic communication is now moving to challenge the conviction in court. Paul Chambers, who had posted a message on the social network, Twitter, to the effect that he would blow apart an airport, is going to be represented by prominent human rights lawyer, Ben Emmerson.
The basis of the challenge on the conviction is the determination of the question whether section 127 of the Communications Act was applied correctly. The defense is considering Chamber’s case to be an …

Insider Trading Investigations Taken Further by FBI

FBI investigation into incidences concerning insider trade has cast its net wider. Currently, legal action has been taken against Galleon Group a hedge fund, where many of the accused persons entered a plea of guilty and agreed to testify against fellow defendants. The Galleon case which is the biggest of insider trading cases in history is still being tried.

US Economy Growth Higher than Anticipated

The Commerce Department released a report on the economy that will come as good news to Americans keen on their economy. In the 3rd quarter of July to September, there was an annualized growth rate of 2.5%. This is as opposed to an estimated rate of 2%.
The growth was attributed to higher spending by American consumers, especially on items such as cars; as well as a rise in the volume of exports.
In the 2nd quarter, a growth of 1.7% was registered and so the latest figures show a considerable improvement. …

Launch of Largest Satellite ever to be Sent into Space Takes Place

A satellite that according to reports will be used to eavesdrop on enemy communications was launched on Sunday. The spacecraft was released to orbit by the United States National Reconnaissance Office from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station via a Delta-4 heavy rocket.
The spacecraft which can put as much as 13 tons in a geostationary transfer orbit is the largest unpiloted American launch vehicle and has an antenna reflector of 18m for relaying phone and data traffic.

Winners at the Emmys

The International Emmys, which were hosted in New York by Jason Priestly, saw a number of internationally acclaimed productions win various awards. The best actor prize was won by Bob Hoskins for his role in the BBC Show, ‘One Street’ which no longer airs. The 68-year old actor was however, not present to receive his award in person.
The title for Best Actress went to Bonham Carter who starred in ‘Small Island’, a biopic about Enid Blyton. The mini-series which scooped an award as the best in its category portrays the …

White House Reports on Effort to Strike Balance over New Security Measures

The uproar over TSA’new security measures is not about to die down. The new security measures which involve either submitting to a full-body scan or being subjected to a pat-down that involves the checking of genital areas and breasts are still evoking fury from a public that feels its privacy has been deeply intruded.

NFL Power Rankings

Tuesdays usually decide the NFL power rankings. There are 24 teams to go including Miami. The
better teams in the competition are New England, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Green Bay, Jets etc. who are
cruising through to the top. It is difficult to believe that one of the weaker teams like Tampa bay or

Hamilton wins A.L Most Valuable Player Award

A .359 batting average made Josh Hamilton the American League’s Most Valuable Player. Second to
stand was Miguel Cabrera of Detroit and Yankees’ Robinson Cano made it to the third place. Cano was
followed by Jose Bautista of Toronto. He finished fourth.
Of the 28 first place votes, Hamilton had 22 ballots. Cabrera collected 5 of the vote sand Bautista got the
