Columbus Day Parade NYC 2010: New York will be having a parade as part of the annual Columbus Day celebrations on October 11, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will mark the 66th anniversary of the Columbus Day parade which will take place from the 47th street to the 72nd street.
Around 35,000 marchers and 100 bands will participate in the parade. Different kinds of music and entertainment will take part in the parade featuring floats, folk dancers and singers and many things to eat and drink.
Vintage car lovers will also be treated with fantastic cars which will grace the occasion. Maseratis including the 1931 V4 Zagato, 1953 A6GCS, 1956 300S, 1960 5000GT, 1970 Ghibli SS and the 2010 Gran Turismo Convertibles will be a part of the parade.
However, a political controversy soured the beginning of the annual parade celebrations as two gay democrats, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Assemblyman Thomas Duane demanded an apology from Republican candidate for the Governor spot, Carl Paladino who said before the parade on Monday youth should not be exposed to gay culture although he himself does not discriminate it.
Paladino and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, his Democratic opponent, were supposed to be a part of the parade.
Maria Bartiromo, the financial reporter from Brooklyn will be serving as the Grand Marshall this year. Live coverage of the parade will be broadcast through NBC starting from 12noon.So everyone who cannot be a part of the parade in person are advised to watch it on TV and be sure not to miss this grand occasion.
