Danroy Henry, football player of Pace University was killed in gunfire early Sunday morning after police reacted to a bar fight in Mount Pleasant, New York. According to police reports, Henry was in a parked car outside Finnegan’s Grill when the cops arrived and tried to flee from the scene.
Henry’s sedan was parked in a fire lane outside the bar when a police officer tapped at his window. He then sped away, thereby hitting an officer who ended up on his hood. Then he struck another officer by the side view mirror, which forced the fourth officer to take out his weapon and fire.
The gunfire killed Henry, a resident of Easton, Mass while his fellow passenger in the front seat, 20 year old Brandon Cox was also shot, but he survived with some injuries. The third passenger in the rear seat, 21 year old Desmond Hinds of Stamford, Connecticut was left unhurt.
Henry’s relatives still cannot believe the accident and are not satisfied by the police’s explanation and want to get to the roots of what happened in the incident. Friends and relatives close to Henry who know him say it was out of character of him to do, what the police claim that he did. Even the versions of the witnesses present during the time contradict the police story.
Henry’s parents had even watched him in Pace’s game against Stonehill on Saturday which was attended by 500 people.
