Two more pain killing drugs have been recalled from the market. According to the reports, Darvon
and Darvocet, two high selling pain killing pills of Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals have been recalled in the
United States. Reports state, the company officials have stopped all sorts of publicity and marketing of
these drugs after FDA reports claimed propoxyphene, an important compound of the pills have the risks
of causing some serious heart ailments.
It has been reported, propoxyphene can affect the heart of any people and cause rhythm abnormalities
of heart. As the side-effect of the component is quite grave, the company officials have immediately
imposed a ban on the drugs. Reports state, European Union as well Britain have banned this drug a year
ago. United States is the third country to ban the use of this drug and many other countries may also
follow the same path.
The pain killing drugs that have been recalled for causing cardiac problems was highly effective and
was used by many people. Therefore, the news that the drug has been recalled from the market has
made many people shocked. FDA officials have requested doctors to stop prescribing all medicines
containing propoxyphene. However, reports state, patients will not have to stop using this compound
immediately. They can continue with it till they get a better alternative for it. Yet, they should not make
unnecessary delay in consulting doctors to find an alternative of propoxyphene. Records state, a large
number of people who have consumed propoxyphene reported of heart rhythm problems and are
under treatment.
