39 Football Fans Died 25 Years Ago In Brussels During Violent Incidents Between Juventus And Liverpool Supporters

About 25,000 fans for each team were at the Hysel Stadium an hour before kick-off when violence erupted. The retaining wall separating the supporters collapsed. This was described as “the darkest hour in the history of the UEFA competitions.”

Haiti’s Debt Was Canceled By World Bank

Haiti’s $36 million debt was canceled by The World Bank thanks to the contribution of 12 European countries and Canada. This credit was allocated by The World Bank for the poorest countries before January 12. That is when a devastating earthquake generated multiple tragedies on Haiti and destroyed large areas of Port-au-Prince which is Haiti’s capital.

The League, Magners Specsavers Fairplay has been awarded to Dai Young’s team, The Blues. The men earned $14359.40 in US dollars to use towards youth development. This also is the second season a team from the Welsh region has claimed this.

Stocks Fall after Spain’s Credit Rating is Downgraded by Fitch Ratings

On Friday, the Dow Jones dropped 122 points after Spain received from Fitch Ratings another downgrade on their credit rating. This was the second one within a month. With this unsettling news, European stocks closed out at their worst in over a year. The agency’s decision was another reminder of the economic hardships still facing several countries in Europe.

Texas Taxpayers Losing Money Over Unused Drugs

Care facilities are now being required to throw out unused drugs due to strict Texas regulations. This is making taxpayers shell out big bucks.
At the Pines Care Center, a director of nursing sends out an untold number of boxes to be destroyed as part of her job. Sometimes there are just a few pills gone.
This includes all types of medications from blood thinners to breathing medications, to blood pressure medicines. It is estimated that between 5-10% of all drugs dispersed in a long-term facility are destroyed.

The World Gold Council (“WGC”) expects that demand for gold will be strong during 2010, driven by growing demand for jewellery in China and India as well as an increase in European and US investment in the context of continued economic instability, sovereign risk and the threat of a ‘double dip’ recession.

Possible Taxation on Colas Creating War With Washington

In the 2011 budget, Council Chairperson Gray has included another form to the cola tax. The beverages with artificial and natural sweeteners and all sodas could impose a 6% sales tax in the city. These beverages are considered grocery items and are tax exempt.
Last week, Mr. Gray cancelled the original proposal. That proposal had called for a tax on colas, excluding diet sodas, based on the ounce. The proposal was to fund a requirement that schools serve students more vegetables and fruits.

The U.S. Congress Called a Leading Group of Farmers for Consultations About Tropical Deforestation

Leading U.S. farm and forest products groups today called on Congress and the administration to help end tropical deforestation. The groups cited a new report showing that overseas agriculture and logging operations are expanding production by cutting down the world’s rainforests, allowing them to flood the world market with cheap commodities that undercut American goods. The report estimates that ending deforestation will boost revenue for U.S. producers by between $196-$267 billion by 2030 – approximately equivalent to the entire amount projected to be spent by farmers on energy during that …
