The number of homes in the United States that are being foreclosed upon continues to increase for the second month in a row. This is according to last statistics, and the increase is nationwide. Lenders in all areas are moving forward with taking property that people haven’t been able to pay for. The increase is a whopping 44% for May.

Chris Dudley defeated Allen Alley and will represent the Republican Party, facing in the fall the former Democratic Governor John Kitzhaber. The Democrat Ted Kulongoski will have to leave the function after two terms.

The Philadelphia Orchestra has decided on Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Canadian conductor of 35, to become its new music director. He also serves as principal conductor of Montreal’s Orchestra Metropolitan and music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
For the next two seasons he will have the title of music director-designate, formally taking over in 2012. The contract runs for 7 years, but board chairman Richard B. Worley hopes Séguin will remain longer. Prior to this offer, the Canadian conductor had made two visits here.
