Debra Bowen to be California secretary of state

California voters seemed to fight shy of first-timers, re-electing Democrat Debra Bowen as 30th California secretary of state. The Republican contender was a political rookie, ex- professional footballer Damon Dunn.
She will remain the top elections officer of the state, a ministerial position which means regulating state elections, financing of various campaigns and overseeing voting systems.
Debra Bowen first came to office in November 2006 as Secretary of State when she bested Bruce McPherson, the Republican from Santa Cruz. She has been a state senator hailing from Marina del Rey …

Life at Charity Dolls House

The launch of a small dolls house charity exhibition this month will bring life of Newton Abbot’s chemist life to a miniature.
The recreation Trust Hall in Marsh Road, Newton Abbot will give specialists and collectors the much-needed space to display their collections.
The South Devon Dolls House and Miniatures Club organized exhibition will have many of doll house lovers’ display their skills and artistry.
The collections from the exhibition will be donated to the Macmillan Cancer support.

Outdoor Wood Boilers Regulations Suspended

The law enacting the controversial statewide regulations on outdoor wood boilers was tabled and will again be subjected to public view time.
The proposals were tabled at the Environment Conservation board meeting in Albany, a few days after the state Department of Environmental Conservation declared it would be submitting the proposals to the board.

Teens Ready to Fight Substance Abuse

Students from the Centre County joined the community to celebrate a day on Substance abuse. This provided the ideal opportunity for the youth to unite with the community members to take a firm stand against substance usage.
Red Ribbon Week was begun in 1985 in the memory of a drug enforcement officer, Enrique Camarena, who was killed while on duty. He was an undercover agent but was unfortunately killed by a drug cartel in Mexico and in his remembrance family members and fellow agents begun to wear red ribbons.

Harry Reid gives White House cause to celebrate

Amid grim results, Democrat Harry Reid staged a spirited win in Nevada and won over Tea Party darling Sharron Angle. This along with the California election results, gave the White House some cause to celebrate in a terrible night that saw even stalwarts like Lisa Murkowski fall to a Republican minnow.

Increase in Rewards from Increased Credit Cards

A report in Dallas claims that dominant retail chains and credit cards issuers are in the process of improving their reward programs to encourage their clients to have credit with them.
David Robertson, publisher of the credit card industry publication “The Nelson Report”, says that all the big chains have discount deals. This, he adds that are helped by recession improvement and retailers are attracting customers through discount.

European Embassies Mail-Bomb Attacks

Explosive experts continue to examine a suspicious package received at the German Chancellor’s office on Tuesday. The package, which according to spokesperson Steffen Seibert “…showed marks that indicated the possibility of explosives”, was received in Angela Merkel’s mailroom office while the Chancellor was in Belgium. The police were alerted and moved in immediately.
Although no connection has been made with the newly-uncovered Yemen-based mail bomb plot, unconfirmed reports indicate that the package had the Greek Economy Ministry marked as the return address. These reports come in the wake of a string …
