Using Social Media To Counter Cyber-Bullying

Cyber-bullying has been on the rise and is an issue that is increasingly emerging as an evil that social media propagates.
The climax of the issue came in the wake of a suicide by a Rutgers University Student, Tyler Clementi. The reason for the suicide was his roommate secretly filming a sex video of him and posting it on You Tube.
This precipitated Tyler to write a suicide note on Facebook and then proceeding to take his life.

Osteoporosis Bisphosphonates May not be as Beneficial as they Seem

Bisphosphonates have for the longest time administered as treatment for osteoporosis, being present in a wide array of popular drugs such as Fosamax, Boniva and Actonel. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are now warning that these drugs may not be worth the risk of developing rare thighbone fractures and osteonecrosis of the jaw.
In addition, drug manufacturers that use bisphosphonates are now required to include the possibility of such complications developing because of using the drugs to treat osteoporosis.

EU Proposes Meeting On 5th December With Iran

Friday December 5th is the date that the European Union proposes to meet with Iran so as to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program. This is after Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign policy chief turned down Tehran’s preference to have a meeting in Istanbul, a refusal attributed to the fact that the country would be backed by Turkish allies on the sidelines.

Monday marks the beginning of Medicare’s annual enrollment program which is expected to see hundreds of thousands of people choosing new plans due to the elimination of their current plan.
The enrollment will benefit millions who are new to it and those who have not re-evaluated their plans in a long time to choose the best coverage for their needs.

Flax Seed Oil Might Help in Bone Loss During Osteoporosis

Researchers at the National Research Center in Cairo, Egypt have released a statement saying that flax seed oil may help reduce the risk of osteoporosis or bone loss.
This was after they did an analysis of the blood and urine of 70 female rats that included some with diabetes. They also included some that had had their ovaries taken out so as to simulate post menopause. Controls were put in place to the effect that some did not have flax seed oil added to their diet.

Researchers on the Verge of Developing New Osteoporosis Treatment

Endocrinologists at the University of Pittsburgh are in the process of developing a treatment of osteoporosis using a naturally occurring hormone that promises to build weakened bones.
The treatment known as, parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), is about to enter into the testing stage. Researchers are, therefore, looking for 105 participants who should be post-menopausal, non-smoking and of Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian women. They should be between the ages of 45 and 75; and should not have taken osteoporosis or estrogen replacement drugs in the last year.
