Dell Inc. announced on Tuesday that the acquisition of cloud computing business-software firm Boomi is all set to take place as computer maker Dell looks to extend its hold in the corporate technology market. Cloud computing firm Boomi is based in Berwyn, Pa., and is a newly fledged company that was founded in 2000 butmade its presence felt. Boomi makes software that integrates various Web-based business-software applications so there are no hitches when it comes to data transfer between corporate software functioning in various far-flung locations and on site. Clients of Boomi include NetSuite and Salesforce.com Inc. Dell’s nearest rival International Business Machines Corp bought a similar software company Cast Iron Systems earlier this year.No information was forthcoming from the Dell camp regarding the financial terms of the Boomi acquisition, and the deal will abide by the usual customary closing conditions. The data-center market is hotting up, whith majors scrambling to spice up their portfolios. Dell recently took a beating when it lost a bidding war with bitter foe and biggie Hewlett-Packard Co to try and add data storage maker 3Par to their kitty. CEO Michael Dell said in Hong Kong that more announcements regarding the SaaS integration startup Boomi acquisition would be forthcoming soon. Dell has so far purchased and partnered only on the infrastructure front, be it Scalent, Joyent or DynamicOps, so the cloud-computing acquisition is a canny investment. The announcement by CEO Michael Dell at an industry event started off a flurry of market speculations. Image Credit: |
