![]() Dell Streak Dell begins presales of its Streak tablet today, retailing for $299.99 with a 24 months AT&T contract and $549.99 unlocked. The general opinion among technical analysts is that tablets have the potential to devour the traditional laptop market in coming years and Dell is hoping that the Streak’s abilities will distinguish it from the competitors with this device running a customized version of Google Android OS, with access to Dell-specific “interface enhancements” and Android Marketplace. It features a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3G connectivity, built-in Wi-Fi capability and the biggest display on a mobile phone: a massive 5-inch WVGA TFT LCD ‘Gorilla’ glass screen, with a resolution of 800×480 pixels. Having also a microSD expandable memory of up to 32GB, a 5-megapixel camera and a navigation and street views coming courtesy of Google Maps, Streak is a mobile entertainment, navigation and social-connectivity device, according to the manufacturer. The tablets leading product is Apple iPad and even the cheap Asian producers was hesitant to fight on this ground, but Streak may become a competitor on this market. It will be not an easy job as long as it is twice the price of an Ipod Touch and it is also $50 more expensive than an Ipad with a 9.7-inch display, but Michael Dell and his team are determined to bring a surprise in the near future. Just got off the line with Dell and the $549.99 unit is still locked to AT&T. (Just no contract) So as of today’s pre-launch there is NO unlocked Dell Streak available from the USA store.
