This was all due to new link that allows users to transfer their Gmail contacts to a PC and upload them to Facebook. Google went ahead and halted the process automatically; this they claimed was due to what they said Facebook never shared its information reciprocally. Google Differ with Facebook Google was disappointed with the site’s action, Facebook refused to comment on the issue. The Google Spokesperson told reporters that Facebook refused to spend their time requesting their subscribers to transfer their contacts out of Facebook. He went on to say their subscribers (of Google) would continue allowing their users export their Google contacts. Social advantage The rivalry between the two firms has put them on the spotlight. The firms are increasingly making their subscribers move information in the internet and from one device to another. Facebook has over 500 million users, making it one of the most searched sources of information as it is very data-rich. But Facebook has been very selective on the movement of its data. The company struck a deal with Microsoft allowing its users to use Microsoft’s search engine, this was not done with Google. Senior researcher at Ovum, Mike Davis is of the opinion that the current state of affairs speaks volumes on the two firms. He observes that Facebook remains to be a threat to Google’s dominance on the internet industry and does not have the option of giving Facebook any further advantage. The company cannot come to the fact that with it being the next big thing and with Facebook had taken up the space. Facebook’s huge customer link were an absolute nirvana for advertising and this added to the fact that Facebook was far much closer to its consumers remains to be a great threat. Google offers the great search engine but does not offer the much needed social interaction. The service of providing a work around solution of uploading Gmail is a cheeky response to the company, Mr. Davis remains unmoved if that was gong to remove Facebook subscribers. He adds that customers are most interested in easy interaction. When one exposes what they are doing or intends to do does not necessarily mean that they actually want to do it. Image Credit: |
