Old treeA large turn out of people to protest RailCorp workers from being able to cut down historic fig trees. The gathering took place at the Sydney North Shore train station. There are five trees being protected, but three of them are going to be cut down in spite of those efforts. According to RailCorp representatives this is the only possibility. This isn’t the same believed that Mayor Ian Cross shares though.

The Mayor has been working with various independent experts in the area of arbor tactics. However, the big problem according to RailCorp is that the trees have simply grown too large and they create many hazards for those that use the train station.

One protestor, Elisabeth Goodsall, is one of the five protestors inside of the train station. The rest of them are gathered outside of it. These five are sitting at the root of the trees so that they can show their support. Due to those sit ins efforts to remove the trees have been halted for now. These dedicated protestors want to see these trees that are about 100 years old being permanently left alone.
