Pop singer Eddie Fisher passed away at his home Wednesday night, after complications from a recent surgery on his hip, as reported by his family through Tricia Leigh Fisher, his daughter. Fisher was 82 and well known for his successful 1950s pop singing career.

In a statement, Eddie fisher’s family regretted that the world has lost “a true American icon, one of the greatest voices of the century.” Before marriage scandals had overshadowed his immense fame, Fisher’s clear voice had a formidable following in the early 1950s, with a huge following from teenage girls.

Amidst releasing all-time and chart-topping great hits such as ‘Thinking of You’ and ‘Oh! My Pa-Pa’, he had The Eddie Fisher Show and Coke Time with Eddie Fisher as some of his memorable moments. However, his spotlight dwindled as rock’n’roll rose but continued recording even in the 60s. His fame was also catapulted by his marriage to Debbie Reynolds in 1955 and had two children. One of their children, Carrie Fisher, is a film star, who appeared as Princes Leia in ‘Star Wars’, the first three.

Fisher’s life was characterized by divorces in his five marriages. With his first wife Debbie Reynolds, he had Todd and Carrie.
