Eric Stolz as the original unfunny Marty McFly

Eric Stoltz must be one comedian seething with rage. For the 25th anniversary of Back To The Future, a snippet of his firing is being used as publicity material , added in DVD and Blu-Ray versions to be out on October 26, 2010.

It looks like a rotten gesture from the marketing div, digging dirt on a respected veteran actor. The clip shows how five weeks into the job, Eric Stoltz got sacked for being too sombre and unfunny as the original Marty McFly, and replaced by Michael J. Fox. They wanted a star preening behind the DeLorean.

Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg , with Bob Gale for company, say in the clip why Marty McFly was canned , saying his comic timing was botched. Talk about shittiness to promote your DVDs. In the never-before-seen footage Eric Stoltz actually looks exceptionally perfect as Marty, only he did not measure up to the glitz quotient demanded by the franchise.
Michael J. Fox was said to be the first choice for Robert Zemeckis, be he was in the Family Ties gig and so Eric Stoltz slipped into the DeLorean. The presumed unavailable Michael J. Fox was called in to replace Stoltz five weeks into the shooting.

They say if you failed at anything, destroy all evidence you ever tried. Eric Stolz should have bombed the archives in time. If you are in cahoots with the underdog, boycott the Back To The Future box set to be out soon.
