Exit polls show Democrats face a rout

Halloween is over, but the Democrats are in for a spook-fest.Amid rising discontent about the economy refusing to get off the ground and record levels of unemployment, exit polls show Democrats have cause for pessimism as their support base is looking fractured.

The voters who gave Democrats victory in 2006 riding on a change rhetoric are disillusioned and sure not the forgiving type. Tuesday exit polls reveal that the party’s ground has eroded when it comes to demographics like middle-income workers, women, senior citizens and whites.

The major anti-incumbency issues are a brokeback economy amid currency wars, low job creation and lack of public support to major Democratic Party policy feats, like the stimulus package offered by Prez Barack Obama and the reforms in health-care.

Preliminary survey results indicate that that the Republicans might be all set to gain control of the House and wrest major gains in the Senate. There is widespread support for Republican in the electorate, as major voter groups are shunning the Democrats.

When the Democrats came to power in 2006 in the House, they enjoyed a whopping 12-point lead among women voters. But looks like their charm with the white ladies is all but gone.

The health-care overhaul touted as a courageous policy, appeared to have little or no effect , as voters above 65 jilted the Democrat camp.

Looks are voters are defecting en masse to the opposite camp and the Democrats cannot do much to stem the exodus.
