Father Guido Sarducci and God’s swans

Chain-smoking priest Father Guido Sarducci flagged of the Rally To Restore Sanity by calling upon God to send out some sign of the right religion, in a hilarious benediction.

The Rally To Restore Sanity said that there should be some indication as to what exactly “one true religion” and asked for a pointer from God, since everyone on earth thought that their religion was the correct one. When the Almighty would give an answer to this conundrum loud and clear, Father Guido Sarducci suggested that for mortals, the sign should be something like swans flying over the heads of crowd, bringing enlightenment.

For the uninitiated, Father Guido Sarducci is a make believe character from Saturday Night Live essayed by Don Novello. The Rally To Restore Sanity is a comic answer, a curative for religious intolerance and fundamentalism. The priest who makes divisive religious rifts vanish in a puff of smoke, is mauled by some spoilsports for mocking religious sentiments, but he is a hit in the blogosphere, and is ruling the Google Trends roost.

The madcap crowd, apart from insanely funny regulars and stalwarts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert , included the priest hooked to smoking, theRoots, Sam Waterston from Law and Order and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Jazzing up the event were entertainers Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, and Ozzy Osbourne . Check out the video clips of Father Guido Sarducci online, which are an internet rage right now. Restore sanity just got a whole new twist.
