Rafael NadalThe French Open champion Rafael Nadal has taken over his position as #1 in the ATP rankings. However, close on his heels is the threat of Roger Federer. For almost a year Federer has been in that #1 slot. For Nadal, being able to move back into that position has been a great feeling of triumph. This was in conjunction with him also winning his 7th Grand Slam so it was a day worth celebrating.

The bump back down to #2 was a disappointment for Federer. He was only one week shy of setting a record in that #1 position. While Federer won the French Open last year he was beat this time around in the quarterfinals by Soderling. However, Federer has had a great reign and will continue to do what he can to get back on top.

There have been many changes and interesting competitions thus far. What will be in the future for the ATP rankings continues to be exciting. You can be sure these two guys will continue to fight it out for the first two positions. However, there are many other talented athletes that aren’t far behind them. They have goals in mind too of getting up that ladder as well.
