Francis Ford Coppola awarded by Oscar

In an LA memorable ceremony, God Father director Francis Ford Coppola received a lifetime achievement. Coppola Feted The best actors in Hollywood went to the event to see the filmmaker receive the Irving Thalberg Memorial Award. Robert DeNiro recognized Coppola terming him as an inspiration and one of his biggest influences. Accepting the price he said that he loved original Hollywood tradition and admiration of the Irving Thalberg tradition. Star Wars creator, George Lucas, referred to Coppola as his big brother and mentor. He said that he taught how to write, direct, personified an era of the whole American film industry, as a leader and an inspiration. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science said the Memorial Awards was to the creative producer whose work reflected a consistently high quality picture production. The award was established in 1937 and has been given 38 times. Francis Ford Coppola has already received five other crucial awards whose four are from the Godfather films. From American Zoetrope studio, established in 1969, Coppola has over 30 films under his production, with the Black Stallion, The Outsiders and Lost in Translation which had his daughter Sofia being awarded an Academy Award nomination for the best director. DeNiro helped in the recognition of Eli Wallach, 94, who got an Oscar for a 60 year action career and still in progress. Clint Eastwood, formally with Wallach on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly called him a god performer and a true friend. Film maker, historian and author Kelvin Brownlow was introduced by Kelvin spacey, an award for his work in preserving and protecting silent films. A key figure in the French New movement, French director Jean-Luc Godard, got an award as well although he was absent. Image Credit: |
