According to a press release, Advanced Physical Therapy Center is holding a Free Screening of Musculoskeletal Pain and injury in honor of National Physical Therapy Month. It will take place on Tuesday October 26th from 6-8 p.m.

A musculoskeletal injury leads to pain which is as a result of inflammation and this pain can be reduced with the help of a physical therapy. Lower back pain affects around 80 percent of Americans during their lifetime and can be relieved by physical therapy using specific exercises along with spinal mobilizations for long lasting effects.

Lower Back Pain Rising

A study published in July 2008 reported the therapy helped an estimated 92 percent of patients with lower back pain. It states that physical therapy is a great alternative to medication, showing individuals who partook in therapy showed greater improvement and reduced pain intensity. People at risk of heart disease were encouraged to see a physical therapist rather than take prescription medication for initial treatment of tendinitis/bursitis, degenerative joint problems (osteoarthritis) and inflammatory joint problems (rheumatoid arthritis).

Physical therapy comes in handy no matter what area of the body, helping people improve their quality of life, moving freely without pain or discomfort. They’re knowledgeable in the human anatomy, kinesiology (human movement) and thus, understand how the body’s four major systems musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary and integumentary (skin) work to maximize and restore mobility.

Examples of people who require the services of a physical therapist are patients living with diabetes or recovering from a stroke, have lower back pain, have suffered a fall or sports injury. They will work closely with the person to evaluate their condition and develop an effective, personalized plan of care.
