![]() FRIENDSHIP POEM IN A ROSE Millions of sweet friendship poems and quotes was sent in the last hours via sms, email or through the traditional snail mail. The United States Congress proclaimed the first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day. It was in 1935, but since then it became an annual event, especially for the youth generations. Many other countries adopted step by step the tradition of dedicating a day to the concept of friendship. Friendship day warmed up people, helping to remember their friends, but it is also a commercial event. Shops and malls offer discounts to attract people and they are a lot of aspects here remembering that a major problem for our generation is keeping the correct balance between accumulation and relations. The tendency is to evaluate someone’s value according to the amount of accumulated objects, knowledge or money, ignoring the reverse of the medal: how much somebody shared with others, how much someone invested in people. Our society encourages us to become independent, but if we really want to be more effective and happy we need to become more interdependent. Is there anything necessarily wrong with a competitor fighting in an individual game, but the most exciting competitions, attracting most audience, are the team games. We need to work more in teams and less on our own. Like a reaction, many articles encourage us today to forget about sweet friendship poems and quotes and simply spend more time with our friends, being directly involved in their lives, “have fun, laugh and enjoy with them”. Like in many other aspects of life we encourage our readers to keep a balance in everything. Some people may be visited or invited to a picnic, but some other friends may be geographically too far and a nice friendship poem, quote or some simple, unsophisticated encouraging words may help them so much.
