General Motors (GM) is looking into creating vehicles that are electically propelled and by 2015 go for those with pure electric and hydrogen or fuel cell ones, and by 2030 electric pods that can drive and park themselves. As the pressure to reduce carbon of personal vehicles intensifies, the Chinese government is introducing incentives to manufacturers to develop fuel cell cars. This demand is being driven by the Chinese market and GM and Shanghai Automotive have taken the initiative. Fuel Cell Car Lowell Paddock said that the manufacturers knew the expectations of the government of china to move in the EVs, as they knew that Europe had driven the internal combustion engine and so were expecting that China would display at the Shanghai motor show the following year their development. Lowell is the planning and programme management for GM in Shanghai. The long term goal of GM is that there is a scenario where drivers can choose the kind of car suitable for them at different times with the fuel cell vehicles like the Volt and Ampera giving drivers range for inter-city driving. Gradually the EV’s would replace the petrol and diesel cars for use in urban and suburban setting. Image Credit: |
