Astrophysicists have been mooning over Mars for long in the hope that it might sustain life, for a spare planet we might need, given the way we are trashing the earth. Now it looks like Goldilocks may have the answer. Ecstatic planet hunters have now discovered a brand new planet in the “Goldilocks zone” of the Gliese 581 star galaxy. The “Goldilocks zone”, for those who are not star-gazing geeks, is the zone where life supporting water can be found. Using the Keck Observatory located in Hawaii, scientists from the luminous University of California teamed up with those from the Carnegie Institution of Washington. The startling discovery says that the planet lies in the proximity of Gliese 581, a dim red dwarf star. The findings are the culmination of 11 years of research. Unlike Mars, the new planet is large enough with the gravitational force to sustain a biosphere. However if you are planning to invest in out of this world real estate, here is a spoiler alert, the planet is 20 light years away, piffling by astronomical standards, but formidable for the average Joe unless you are an ageless cyborg. This new planet is located in the constellation Libra, so people with that birth sign now have bragging rights. The planet carries a mass that is four times greater than our green earth. The futuristic think that 20 light years is a fairly do-able distance that can be broached .Famed astronomer Steven Vogt said that this is a planet that is potentially habitable in the very near future, so wait and watch for that rehab. |
It’s Pandora! We’re going to go there and destroy the habitat, and the tall blue people.
i tink this is soooo cool that we have a planet like earth. maybe it can explain the roswell story (aka area 51)
