Google has announced that Gmail accounts will no longer be handed over to other sites and services. The search giant has said that it will only share its user information with other firms that provide data feeds to other companies in the market. Gmail to be Restricted from Access by Other Sites, Facebook in Particular The policy is particularly and specifically aimed at Facebook the company clarified. This, the company complained, was due to the socio-network company did not give its customers a choice. The policy is to be implemented in the coming few weeks the company went on to say. Many web firms, Google included, let competitors have user information by using a system called Application Programming Interface (API). Prior to the policy coming into place sites like Facebook used Google’sAPI to allow their users import Gmail contacts automatically making them to rapidly fill out their and know other persons who used the service. The situation will be changed to have Gmail automatic access only to the websites that let others have the data they own and hold. Google singled out Facebook for the predicament, according to a statement released to Reuters. The company said it had taken a decision to change its policy and reflect that its users were not aware that they had imported their details into websites like Facebook, as the users are literally trapped. Facebook have remained mum on the whole issue. Ray Valdes, Gartner analyst, made it clear to the Reuters that Google had made the decision on its business aspirations. This is based on the fact that the company needed to be a bigger player in the internet industry than it already was and doing it was next to impossible. Some analyst have remained of the view that this a reactionary act to a deal struck between Facebook and Microsoft that gave its subscribers the option to the Bing search engine. Despite the fact that Google had halted the automatic transfer of Gmail information it still allowed their users to download their contacts and have it shared with any service in the business.
