Google early in the week expressed that it has decided to start offering passengers using Virgin America, Delta and AirTran access to free Wi-Fi during the current holidays.

Google Sponsors Wi-Fi in 3 Airlines

The wireless access to the internet via Chrome Browser by Google will generally be accessible from November 20 up to January 2. The three main airlines do wield Wi-Fi, fleet wide at the cost of $6-13.

In 2009, Google did sponsor free Wi-Fi on one of the airlines, Virgin, and across airports exceeding 50.

Wi-Fi, in flight has been quite catching on a snail speed because of the cost involved. For those travelers who usually get the free service in such places as Starbucks have been cited as those who are not that delighted to start paying for the internet service on flights.

Another reason has been the fact that laptops and a score of other electronics are only usable in the air for a very short time.

For analyst in the industry, sponsorship such as that by Google comes as the main impetus that would get individuals to embrace the usage of Wi-Fi in the air.
