2 million strollers by baby gear makers Graco has been recalled after reports were received, of the death of four infants in the strollers.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Wednesday. The four babies were reported to be strangled after being trapped in the strollers. All the four infants died within the years of 2003 and 2005.
The products that have been recalled are the older versions of the Graco Quattro Tour and MetroLite strollers and travel systems. These were all manufactured before 2007 and Graco Children’s Products Inc. of Atlanta had distributed them.
When the babies are not strapped properly into the strollers, it can make them slide through the gap between the bottom of the seat and the stroller tray. This can make the babies to get stuck on the seat bottom and get strangled. The CPSC said these were the probable reasons of the death of the infants. They also complained of five other reports that have been received where the infants had been trapped but had survived with some injuries: cuts and bruises and a report also of breathing trouble.
The products recalled were manufactured before 2008 after which a development was made. Manufacturers were required to keep a larger gap and opening between the bottom of the seat and the stroller’s tray which would prevent the accidents. Due to a large stroller opening neither will the babies get trapped and nor will they get strangled. Thus the new strollers have been made to prevent more accidents.
