Amid grim results, Democrat Harry Reid staged a spirited win in Nevada and won over Tea Party darling Sharron Angle. This along with the California election results, gave the White House some cause to celebrate in a terrible night that saw even stalwarts like Lisa Murkowski fall to a Republican minnow. Harry Reid emerged victor in the big fight in Nevada, and defied critics who had written him off. There was a fight to the finish given the ferocious challenge that Republican Sharron Angle offered up. Reid took control of the slugfest on Tuesday, winning his fifth term in office. Looks like he got inoculated from the widespread anti-incumbency bug that gave the Democrats a post-Halloween spook-out. Harry Reid should go ahead and patent the vaccine for the Democrat camp. In the scathing run up to the losses in the 2010 election, even Obama is losing his characteristic charisma and ending up shouting at booing groups at rallies. Amid sweeping losses, Harry Reid stood tall and is set to go on as the Senate Majority Leader, despite being labelled as down and out. NBC and Huffington Post among others had predicted that Reid would sink, but their forecasts turned out to be as unreliable as a Met Office prediction. Reid was in the news earlier this year after he was chosen Senate Majority Leader and had to face a hostile Republican house. Sharron Angle ranted against illegal immigrants and tried to project Reid as indecisive, but it backfired. Image Credit: |
