Hiring US Census Will Boost Payrolls in May

Labor vincit omniaIn May, payrolls for nonfarm work climbed at the fastest rate in almost 27 years as the US Census Bureau was getting ready to hire more workers.

Out of the 513,000 payroll increases, it is projected the census will be hiring around two-thirds of it. The foundation is there for the recovery process from a wounded labor market. This would be one of the largest monthly gains since 1983 when over 1,000,000 jobs were added. This follows March’s increase of 290,000 jobs after losses for the last two years. This would be five months of straight growth.

Last month, the private sector created around 190,000 jobs. This is slower than April with 321,000 jobs but still five months of solid gains.

For three quarters the economy is showing signs of growth and the recovery is starting to spread. The jump in employment probably led to a decline in the unemployment lines. Even though unemployment rates remain high, analysts are saying the job market is coming back to life.

With the job market getting stronger, this might encourage those looking for work to start searching again, and this would keep the rate still high as the workers are only counted when they are actively seeking employment.
