This year’s Nobel peace prize concert is slated to be hosted by Hollywood stars, Anne Hathaway and Denzel Washington. Other expected performers include US songstress, Colbie Caillat and Indie Arie. Washington to Host Nobel Prize Concert The concert will be a tribute to this year’s Nobel peace prize winner, Liu Xiabo, the jailed Chinese nonconformist. The 54-year old laureate was last year sentenced for 11 years on charges of inciting subversion. This was as a result of his formulating a draft charter that agitated for multi-party democracy and respect for human rights in China. The Norwegian Nobel Committee stipulates that the Nobel award can only be received in person or by close family members. It is therefore, unlikely, that the prize will be given out this year since China will most likely prohibit his family from leaving the country. Nevertheless, preparations for the 11 Dec concert are in top gear as the performance list includes Barry Manilow, Florence and the Machine, Elvis Costello and Jamiroquai, among other renowned performers. Previous hosts to the concert have been Will Smith, Tom Cruise and Sir Michael Caine. |
