The tropical storm named Paula strengthened to take the form of a hurricane on Tuesday as it approached the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico as reported by the U.S. National Hurricane Center. Lots of unpleasant weather had marked this year’s hurricane season providing great encouragement for storm hunters. Paula was moving with raging winds at a speed of 75 miles per hour giving it the tag of a category 1 hurricane. At that time it was located about 230 miles to the south-southeast of Cozumel in Mexico. However, the season’s sixteenth storm and ninth hurricane strengthened to category 2 that enabled it to lift houses and causes huge damages on housings, agriculture ,mobile homes and also piers. It is now moving with sustained winds at a speed of 100 miles per hour (160 Kph) in the proximity of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Reports suggest it is moving in the north-northwest direction at a speed of 10mph or 17 kph. It is currently located in the south – southeast of the Cozumel Island in Mexico. It took 12 hours for Paula to develop into a hurricane making it the fastest one. Paula originated as an area of low pressure in the Caribbean Sea on October 7. Then it developed into a tropical storm moving from the Caribbean to Mexico. Even a hurricane warning was issued by the Government of Mexico on October 11 while the storm entered USA on October 12 first hitting Florida on its way through. |
