This was the Halloween marathon with the adventurous running in their costumes, adding jazz to the Marine Corps Marathon this year. Dubbed the ‘People’s Marathon’, anyone and everyone can take part in this marathon and the only award is the fun of the participation. This was the 35th anniversary of the Marine Corps Marathon and this edition was celebrated in style, with Halloween fever spilling on to the race. Everyone from Halloween bunnies and witches to hotties scruffing up their sneakers were part of the event this year. This year the top slot in the men’s division was taken by an American, Lt. Jacob Bradosky of the Air Force. Lt. Bradosky hails from Centreville and ran home in 2 hours and 23 mins and 30 secs. Next up finishing the marathon was Kenyan Ronald Kurui, who was 11 seconds behind Lt. Jacob Bradosky. In the category for women, it was Janet Cherbon who claimed top honours with a timing of 2hours, 39 mins and 19 secs. Cherbon hails from marathon country Kenya and ended up top of the heap despite being a late entrant. The next position in the event was won by Lt .Gina Slaby of the American Navy. Lt . Slaby clocked up a timing of 2 hours, 48 mins and 35 secs. Both the categories saw the winners emerge on top by a whisker, and the slender margin showed how intensely contested the marathon was. More power to the People’s and Corps Marathon! |
