Jeff Zucker, NBC CEO, has reported that he will be leaving the network after Comcast acquisition. He acknowledged that the decision to depart was hardly “his own choice”, according to the report, but nine months down the line Comcast had clearly shown they wanted a team of their own and he “did not want to end up being a guest” in his own place.

Zucker, Right, in a Past Function

Jeff Zucker’s decision to leave NBC was not a surprise to many, where his tenure in the network he had seen the growth of cable networks although characterized by problems in ratings.

However, two main aspects have defined Zucker’s sunset years with NBC. One was a controversy surrounding the hiring of Ben Silverman, who has mandated to run the entertainment division of the network. The second one was an issue that had shifted Jay Leno to 10PM from the well known “Tonight Show” and then a return to the same again.

Jeff Zucker has a wide experience with the network, after joining it as a researcher for sport, followed by a slot as executive producer at only 26 years of age, producing the “Today Show”. He then worked his way up the network.

There had been reports that NBC’s post Zucker days are already lined up by Comcast, who had promised to make widespread house cleaning. Among those lined up to take positions is Bob Greenblatt, a former Chief of Showtime, lined to take up the helm of programming at prime time.
