It is believed that the technology of these machines, known as the V-20, will help BP successfully remove as much as 128,000 barrels of oil from water per day. With the wellhead contributing 60,000 barrels of oil per day the mess can be reduced daily with the help of the V-20 machines. Each of the machines weighs 4,5000 pounds, and three of the were recently seen on a barge at Port Fouchon. They are going to be sent to the heart of the spill where the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig sunk. This location is approximately 50 miles from the coast of Louisiana. The plan is for more of the V-20 machines to be spread out over the distance of 120 miles over the next two months. According to official representatives for Ocean Therapy Solutions, 200 gallons of water and oil can be separated per minute. There is no use of chemicals for the processing either. Image Credit: |
