Soren Berger was under wood chips and sawdust, by the time the wood lesson ended but was in a jovial mood as he taught the numerous types of cuts and lessons never to forget.

Berger, a renown professional wood turner, recognizes wood turning as one of the biggest fun one can ever have with a piece of wood, as friends told him.

Woodwork Lathe: Has a lot of Fans, Business or Pleasure

Bowls on a lathe are created by woodturning, cut and shaped by a stationary object.

On 19th October around a dozen turners from the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara met at Chris Hansen’s home to have a day-long demonstration from Berger of the craft.

The host Hansen was all joy for he spends an entire day in the office and later in the evening or weekends have some creativity time. He goes on to recognize Soren as the best in the business and a great teacher.

Berger, a New Zealander, goes around the world in the winter giving demonstrations. Berger had spent two months in Mongolia before setting foot in the US. He has been in the woodturning industry since 1976, began travelling in 1992.

Berger who has a lot of satisfaction; he has the ability to make a decorative piece or bowl in a day or so, adds that the rule is one has to have sharp equipments to use in cutting the wood.
Woodturning Online states that woodturning was initiated in Great Britain about 3,000 years ago.

Hansen and others meet monthly to display their work or have a project as a group despite the fact that the Valley lacks an official wood-turners club. San Luis Obispo has a club known as the Central Coast Wood turners, while Ventura has one called Channel Island Wood turners.
