Leonardo DiCaprioLeonard DiCaprio is well known for his various acting roles. However, he is also very involved with the environment. He has recently joined forced with the WWF in an effort to save the tigers. There are only about 3,200 of these animals that remain in the wild today. The goal of the collaborative efforts between DiCaprio and the WWF involve the Save Tigers Now campaign. Incidentally, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger according to the Chinese culture.

This particular campaign is aimed at educating people about the threats tigers face in their natural environment. The goal is also to help raise the funding needed for preserving the tigers. The goal is $20 million to raise during the Year of the Tiger. The vision of this organization is to have more than 6,500 tigers in the wild by the year 2022. That is when the next Year of the Tiger occurs

DiCaprio made this statement in regards to his support of the campaign – “Tigers are endangered and critical to some of the world’s most important ecosystems.” If we are going to be able to save the tiger from extinction then aggressive efforts have to take place now. Their natural environment needs to offer them what they need to thrive. We have to realize that by saving the tiger we also keep balance in those ecosystems.
