Last year saw the heaviest snow fall in 18 years which was marked by temperature nose diving well below the national average. Major transport services such as air and road had to shut down, owing to the level of snow being as high as 25 cm. it was as white a Christmas as any. White Christmas Could be Elusive This Year However, it will be a not-so-white Christmas this year as weather experts predict a much milder winter than that seen last year. Bouts of snowfall are not expected to begin in earnest until around January. After a warm summer, the cold sets in during November and many are anxious over whether the extreme temperatures seen last year will recur this year. Weather forecasters, however, are seeking to allay these fears. They say that the first two weeks of November will be quite dry and mild with just below-average cold temperatures. The last two weeks will see an increase in the amount of rainfall as well as instances of snowfall in northern areas. December will be drier than normal, meaning less snow. Temperatures are then expected to dip to 2% below the national average. January, on the other hand, will bring with it heavy snow and rainfall. Despite the prospect of a much milder winter this year, it is important not to forget that it will still be cold and it is therefore important to still dress warm. Image Credit: |
