Meredith Vieira and Al Roker were among many a high-profile celebrities who finished the New York City Marathon. The Today show duo meant business, and Meredith Vieira put Al Roker to shame with a smoking timing of 5:59 as compared to 7:09:44 clocked by Roker. Roker and Vieira were pampered with foot massages for their NYC Marathon feats on a balmy Monday morning on Today’s show. Chilean miner Edison Pena showed indomitable spirit as he overcame creaky knees to finish the 26.2 mile route in nearly 6 hours. The 5:40 timing came at a price as he was forced to put ice packs on the knees to relieve cramps. 58 year old Robin Quivers who is a sidekick on the Howard Stern radio show can now brag of a NYC Marathon medal, and looked delighted flaunting the medal at post-race parties. Robin Quivers managed an amazing feat as just a few years ago, she had trouble walking a few yards as her fitness levels dipped. She shed an astounding 80 pounds after opting for a healthy vegan diet. Now she has the energy to go the whole hog at epic marathons. She has vowed never to be out of shape again as it saps her energy, saying that fitness ensured she was a bundle of activity. There were many renowned figures who ran their first ever NYC marathon. Among them were Amani Toomer, the former NY Giants receiver and Jared Fogle, spokesman for Subway sandwich Image Credit: |
