The U.S. national holiday is celebrated on every continent. Everyone is happy today! It is Independence Day of United States of America, but many minds are on our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, including those of the nation’s lawmakers. Vice President Joe Biden is in Iraq today for meetings with the troops and Iraqi government officials.

President Obama prepares to meet Benjamin Netanyahu this week after he came back from a brief trip to Camp David. He will welcome military families to the White House tonight to watch the annual fireworks show. The First Lady is asking 100 percent of Americans to support the brave men and women in uniform and their families back home.

Walmart is offering great discounts on several items today. BP has pledged to be in full attendance for this year and some of its representatives will be present on the beaches, but in addition to the oil spill, bad weather may hurt the region this weekend.

The Continental Congress actually voted to declare independence from Great Britain for independence on July 2nd, 1776, but on July 4th, 1776 the same Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence and this became the day of United States. The final Declaration was signed by 56 men.
